EVERYTHING ABOUT DENTAL EMERGENCIES

Same-day help for toothaches, breaks, and swelling

If your tooth hurts, cracked, or you’re noticing swelling, call us. We prioritize urgent visits and focus on fast relief and a clear plan—one patient at a time.

When to call us right away

Severe or persistent toothache

Swelling of the gums, cheek, or jaw

Broken/chipped tooth or sharp edges cutting your tongue/cheek

Knocked-out or loose tooth

Lost filling or crown, or a temporary that came off

Signs of infection (throbbing pain, bad taste, fever)

Call 911 / go to the ER for trouble breathing or swallowing, facial swelling spreading to the eye/neck, uncontrollable bleeding, suspected broken jaw, or head/neck injury.

What to do before you arrive (quick tips)

  • Knocked-out tooth: Hold it by the crown (not the root). Rinse gently if dirty. Try to place it back in the socket or keep it moist in milk or saliva. Come in ASAP.
  • Broken/chipped tooth: Save any pieces. Use a cold compress for swelling.
  • Lost crown or filling: You can use temporary dental cement from a pharmacy to protect the area. Avoid super glue.
  • Toothache: Rinse, gently floss to remove trapped food, and use OTC pain relievers as directed. Avoid aspirin directly on the gums.
  • Soft-tissue injury: Apply pressure with clean gauze for up to 10 minutes. If bleeding continues, seek urgent care.

What to expect at your emergency visit

We’ll assess the area, take any needed digital X-rays, and explain findings in plain language. Our first step is to relieve pain, then stabilize the tooth. Same-day care may include smoothing or bonding a chip, re-cementing a crown, placing a temporary filling, starting a root canal, or planning an extraction if needed. If an infection is present, we’ll discuss the right treatment and prescribe medications when appropriate.

Can you see me today?

We do everything possible to see emergencies the same day during office hours.

Will you prescribe antibiotics over
the phone?

Most dental infections require an exam and a procedure (like drainage or root canal) for lasting relief. We’ll guide you based on your symptoms.

Do I have to be an existing patient?

No—new patients are welcome for urgent care.

Can a knocked-out tooth be saved?

Often—if it’s kept moist and treated within 30–60 minutes. Call us immediately and follow the steps above.

What if the pain starts at night or on the weekend?

Call and leave a message; we’ll contact you the next business day. If you have severe swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing/breathing, seek urgent medical care.

Does a chipped tooth always need treatment?
